In the brain, the exterior surface is composed of neuron bodies and the interior surface is composed of myelinated axons. In the spinal cord, the exterior surface is composed of myelinated axons and the interior surface is composed of neuron bodies. In the brain, grey matter is present on the exterior surface and white matter is present on the interior surface. Whereas, in the spinal cord, grey matter is present inside and white matter is present outside.
