Acetylene dimerized to give vinyl acetylene when it combines with hydrogen chloride to form 4-chloro-1, 2-butadiene, an allene derivative, which in presence of cuprous chloride (CU2CI2) and ammonium chloride (NH4CI), rearranges to form 2 – Chlorobuta – 1, 3 – diene.
