Arrange– NH3 ; BF3 and NF3 in the increasing order of their Dipole moment, giving reasons.

Lo : Dipole Moment is a vector quantity of a molecule which shows the net polarity present in it Dipole Moment is defined as the product of the charge and the distance between the two charges.

 Dipole Moment (μ) = ⋅ r. (Delryellnts)

= Charge

= Distance of Separation (Direction is from negative to positive Charge).

Eg :- NH3 (Ammonia) has a dipole moment, μ = 1.46D

NH3 > NF3 > BF3

Due to the more electronegatue 'F' atom in NF3 the net dipole due to 3 'F' atoms and that due to the lone pair are in opposite directions. Hence, the net dipole moment is less than NH3, where both dipole moments are in the same direction.
