Question

A triangle and a parallelogram have the same base and the same area. If the sides of the triangle are 26 cm, 28 cm and 30 cm, and the parallelogram stands on the base 28 cm, find the height of the parallelogram.

Solution

Semiperimeter of DABC                               
s=26+28+302=42cm
s – a = 42 – 26 = 16 cm
s – b = 42 – 28 = 14 cm                               
s – c = 42 – 30 = 12 cm
Area of ΔABC=s(sa)(sb)(sc)
=42×16×14×12cm2=14×3×4×4×14×4×3cm2
= 14 × 4 × 3 × 2 cm2 = 336 cm2
    Area of parallelogram = Area of triangle [Given]
        h × AB = 336
        h × 28 = 336 cm2
        h=33628=12cm
