We have $\frac{1}{v} - \frac{1}{u} = \frac{1}{f}$
or $\frac{1}{v} = \frac{1}{u} + \frac{1}{f} = \frac{1}{- 16} + \frac{1}{12} = \frac{1}{48}$
or, V = +48 cm
The image is formed 48 cm from the lens on the side of the transmitted rays.
