1 moles of an ideal diatomic gas is subjected to a process AB such that PT remains constant as shown. Calculate the magnitude of heat exchange during the process AB (in Cal).

PT = constant
P2V = constant ⇒ PV1/2 = constant
for polytropic process
Cm = Cv,mR(1x)
      =52R+R1/2=9R2

At point A and B : P1 TA = 3P1 × 300         Heat exchanged = nCmΔT
        TA = 900K                                                                      = 1 × 92 × R × (300 – 900)
                                                                                               = – 5400 cal
Magnitude of heat exchanged = 5400 cal.
